Regional Presence:
Au Pair in America has 16 Community Counselors in a 6 state area, Arizona, Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii. The clusters vary in size serving more than 260 families throughout the region. The Western United States provide a truly unique experience for Au Pairs. Everything from desert to mountain ranges to South Pacific beaches make up the geography of the West! This Region is also home to the Island of Hawaii, the Rocky Mountains, the vineyards and beaches of California, the Pacific Northwest, the natural scenic beauty of Oregon and its coastline and the desert lands of Arizona.

Quarterly Message:
July 2008

The region is busy with tons of outdoor activities. In Colorado all three clusters are whitewater rafting in July, attending a professional baseball game in August, and horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains in September. Los Angeles au pairs are surfing, horseback riding, and gathering to watch a Padres and New York Mets baseball game. Northern California au pairs are having pool parties, touring San Francisco’s Pier 39, and attending a variety of professional sporting events. Arizona girls are doing their annual trip to the Grand Canyon. Washington clusters are taking an excursion to the Olympic Peninsula and to Mount Rainier. Oregon au pairs will be attending the Broadway musical “Stomp.” The au pairs in Hawaii will be taking surf lessons and spending a lot of time on the beach!

The summer months are a time to show the au pairs all the wonderful outdoor activities that Americans partake in when the weather is nice. In the West, we are known for being outdoors and being active. Hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, “canyoneering,” kayaking, and many other outdoor activities keep Westerners busy all season long. Special days these months include Independence Day (July 4th) and Labor Day (September 6th). Child Development topics that are covered during this season are water safety and bicycle safety.
