Regional Presence:
Au Pair in America has 23 clusters in Region II. Region II includes
New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. We have clusters throughout
the state of New Jersey while our Pennsylvania clusters are in and
around Philadelphia and our Delaware cluster serves the Wilmington
area. The Region has about 700 Host Families.
Our clusters enjoy the benefits of living near large cities, and
the Au Pairs enjoy what those cities offer. In addition, they enjoy
the small monthly cluster meetings in their own communities. Multi-cluster
activities are planned several times a year. These meetings enable
Au Pairs from many clusters to meet together. There is opportunity
for a wide variety of the "American Experience" in the
region.
Quarterly Message:
July 2008
Clusters in the region will hold their regular monthly meetings. These meetings will include pool parties, barbeques, picnics, outdoor concerts, and other activities of local/historical interest. The quarterly child care component will address issues relevant to child safety and will include such topics as pool safety and playground safety. Au Pairs will experience a bit of American Culture this quarter as both the 4th of July and Labor Day occur.
The host families and au pairs around Philadelphia attended a Phillies baseball game in June. As usual, ticket sales have proven this is a successful event.
Gosia Downes and Eva Stark, two Counselors in Bergen County, NJ, will host a host family/au pair apple picking event in September.
Regional Representative:
I am Emily Van Doren. I began working with Au Pair in America
in 1986 as a Community Counselor in New Jersey. I held that position
for 14 years. Since 1993 I have been a Regional Representative for
Au Pair in America. My region is Region II and it includes New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and Delaware. As Regional Representative I interview,
recommend for hire, and train new Community Counselors in the region.
I am also an Au Pair Orientation trainer. Several times each year
I orient our new Au Pairs to life in America, and what they should
expect in their year ahead.
